I've started posts a couple of times in the past few days, but not had anything to write about. Maybe because I'm not doing much, mostly just sitting around and reading and cooking and cleaning the kitchen. I seem to spend a lot of time cleaning the kitchen. Maybe I just notice that time more.
My grandma sent me, a month or so ago, this book about a guy who, in the 1930's, travels by walking and hitching rides (mostly walking) from London to Constantinople. It's interesting; it makes me want to walk across 1930s Europe. Then I borrowed a book (that was once a zine) from Cedar, wherein a couple of punk girls hitchhike across Europe. So, basically now I just want to wander around Europe in general, since obviously it's still possible. Mostly I want to wander around Eastern Europe; mostly I am homesick for Hungary and remembering how beautiful Slovakia was when Katie and I visited. And how small distances are, there: walking between places to stay seems plausible. Mostly I am homesick for Hungary; that is the temptation. Nicollet Mall felt like this very particular street in Budapest the day before yesterday; it made me cry. I want to try cheeses that I see in the co-op-- I want them to be bryndza, this Serbian sheep cheese Eva bought. I am a good vegan, so I don't.
