two questions

How do you reconcile believing that God is good with believing that he sent ten successive plagues (not to mention the Red Sea) against the Egyptians when HE was making Pharaoh refuse to let the Jews go?

Why does this disturb me so much, given that I don't believe the Bible is an especially reliable source of information?
