Yesterday I went to the Oregon Country Fair with my bathroommate, Kathleen. It was so pretty! I have never seen so many people so beautiful and so easy to tell apart... everyone was wearing their most exciting clothing, I think. And feathers and body paint and other beautiful things. There were lots of little children and people playing music and it made me happy. (There was also lots of sensory overload. We spent a long time wandering around gaping at everything. It felt like all fairs did when I was little-- very exciting and everything seemed wonderful. The way that Jesse James Days, say, does not really seem at this point.)
And I met
nodesignation and that was nice, and I hope that she does come to visit, because the fair was being somewhat more dazzling than would really lead to getting to know anyone in particular. I also saw Becky Dernbach, which was rather shocking. She was registering people to vote.
Also wonderful was the chance to do contact improv. in the middle of the day, which was a nice break from the sensory overload. The teacher cancelled, so an older and slightly awkward man named Paul and I danced, and the other person there (I forget her name) danced with us for awhile but then decided she had to leave. He was a good dancer, a little bit slower and more clingy and less playful than I was feeling, but definitely good. It was nice.
And today I went to the farmer's market and got a lot of berries and will make pies later. And do the wash. And go to see Pirates of The Caribbean Two with the math folks. (En masse, because we are dorky like that, which is kind of a nice way to be dorky, I think.)
I am daydreaming about living at the Fair, though. I felt so conspicuous dressing up to go-- hair sticking up all over my head (I'm getting fond of it this way) and sequins and heavy eye make-up all over my face-- and then so not-conspicuous as soon as we got there. But happy and very much visibly me. And that was really nice, and a good sort of thing to daydream about.
